St. Helen's Church

The Church of England has always been at the forefront of education, and early on in 1686 the relationship between St Helen’s and the School began. That relationship continues to flourish 330 years on as we enter an exciting new season in the life of this beautiful, new, amalgamated Sandal Castle Primary School. (For a short history of our Church school please click on the link, The Grand Launch.)

Our aim as a Church community is to support the Head Teacher and Staff in their vital work of education, by providing an underpinning of Christian teaching and values to benefit all pupils from a variety of faith and social backgrounds. The Vicar, Hannah Smith serves as a Foundation Governor and is renewing the very valuable links between school and the Church.

Different year groups and classes will visit St Helen’s on a regular basis to learn about the character of Christian worship and prayer, the history and architecture of the church building, and the environment of the ancient churchyard. The whole school comes together to experience worship in the church at Christmas and on other occasions, and to enjoy other events.

St Helen’s serves our community through The Spring Community Shop and Café, through CAP, Christians against Poverty, with its debt centre, job club and release groups, and in a variety of other ways outlined in the Parish Welcome Booklet

In particular we have a vibrant ministry to children, young people and families on Sundays and throughout the week, and enjoy a monthly Families@4pm service with all ages, especially welcoming new families for Baptism.

St Helen’s Church and Sandal Castle Primary School lie at the heart of the Parish and we work together to serve our community in the best way we can.
